Who we are

This website (onionswithouttears.co.uk) is the personal book promotion site for Onions Without Tears by Alison Bessborough. It is not a commercial business.

What data we collect

When you visit any page, we record a lightweight visit log containing:

• Your IP address
• Your approximate location (city, region, country and timezone), inferred from your IP by our hosting provider Cloudflare
• The page you visited and the referring URL (if any)
• Your browser's user-agent string (used only to identify the general device type, e.g. iPhone, Android, Windows)
• A timestamp of the visit

This data is stored in Cloudflare's key-value storage and is automatically deleted after 30 days. It is visible only to the site owner via a password-protected page, and is used to gauge interest in the book. No advertising or profiling is done with it and it is never shared with third parties.

Aggregate, non-personal usage statistics are also collected by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or record any personal data.

If you submit the contact form we also collect your name, email address and message.

Cookies

The site does not set any cookies of its own. Your browser may retain small local-storage entries used to remember your preferences on the visitor-log page — these never leave your device.

Legal basis

The visit log and aggregate analytics are collected under the "legitimate interest" basis (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) so we can understand how the site is being used. Contact form data is processed on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the form.

How your data is used

The visit log is used only to see how many people are looking at the site and roughly where they are. Contact form messages are used solely to respond to your enquiry. Nothing is used for marketing, passed to third parties for their own purposes, or added to any mailing list.

Where your data is stored

Visit logs and analytics are stored by Cloudflare, our hosting provider. Contact form submissions are processed and stored by Formspree, a third-party service based in the United States. You can read their privacy policy at formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.

Google Maps

The Buy Now page includes an optional Google Maps embed. It does not load unless you choose to tap the map. If you do, Google's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To do so, please get in touch. You can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
